In a historic decision taken during the Cabinet meeting in Mangaluru, the Karnataka government has approved the long-standing demand to declare Tulu as the second additional administrative language for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Official Status for Tulu: Fulfilling regional aspirations, Tulu will now serve as an additional administrative language for official use in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. An annual allocation of Rs 82 lakh has been provisioned for translation and training frameworks.

Mega Development Outlay: The Cabinet cleared infrastructure and development projects worth Rs 32,611 crore, allocating funds equally toward rural infrastructure and coastal regional growth.

Education and Tourism Initiatives: The existing Fisheries College in Mangaluru will be upgraded into the Fisheries, Marine and Blue Economy University, increasing student intake from 60 to 200. Additionally, a dedicated coastal and Malnad tourism policy was cleared.

Renaming Proposal: The government initiated steps to issue a draft notification inviting public feedback over a one-month period to officially rename Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru district.
