SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant Launches 'CO₂ Dashboard' to Drive Decarbonization Efforts

Why in the News?
Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) launched a dedicated 'CO₂ Dashboard' for Bhilai Steel Plant and Chandrapur Ferro Alloy Plant (CFP) to accelerate decarbonization and foster sustainable steel production. The digital tool was inaugurated by Shri Chittaranjan Mahapatra, Director I/c (BSP).
Key Features / Major Points:
Daily Emission Tracking: The dashboard enables real-time tracking, analysis, and prompt corrective actions for carbon emissions at both overall plant and individual shop levels.
Global Standard Compliance: It assesses emissions in accordance with global benchmarks, including the World Steel Association (WSA) methodology, GHG Protocol, and the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Support for Indian Carbon Market: The digital platform will help SAIL align with India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) by monitoring emission-intensity targets and facilitating participation in carbon market mechanisms.
Collaborative Development: Developed in partnership with M/s Centra World, an expert consultant engaged by SAIL's Environment Management Division (EMD, Kolkata).
