The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to upgrade its existing 1033 National Highway Helpline with advanced technology to ensure faster and more efficient assistance for commuters travelling across national highways.
Key Features / Major Points:
Integration of Advanced Technologies: According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the upgraded 1033 helpline will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI), real-time location tracking, and smart emergency-response systems.
Enhanced Precision and Multilingual Support: These upgrades will enable the helpline to accurately pinpoint callers' locations, comprehend diverse Indian languages, and dispatch appropriate assistance swiftly. Human operators will continue to handle complex emergencies requiring critical human judgment.
Background and Services: Launched in 2018, the 24/7 helpline assists highway users with medical emergencies, vehicle breakdowns, deployment of ambulances, cranes, and patrol vehicles, as well as resolving Toll plaza and FASTag-related issues.
Extensive Reach: The helpline currently spans across more than 1.46 lakh kilometres of National Highways nationwide.
