Why in the News?
India's coconut sector, supporting nearly 30 million livelihoods, has transitioned from a traditional agricultural activity to a global export powerhouse. The Union Budget 2026-27 introduced the "Coconut Promotion Scheme" to boost sustainability, improve farmer incomes, and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in coconut and coir exports.
