Indian Akshay Urja Day (National Renewable Energy Day) is observed annually across India on August 20 to raise awareness about the development and adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass.

Inception & History: Initiated in 2004 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The inaugural event in New Delhi featured a commemorative postage stamp released by the Prime Minister.
Commemorative Link: Celebrated on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, it is also known as 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas'.
