IIT Madras Team ‘Aritra’ Wins Njord Challenge 2026 in Norway for Autonomous Surface Vessels

Team Aritra, comprising ocean engineering students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, has won the prestigious Njord Challenge 2026, an international autonomous marine vessel competition held in Trondheim, Norway.

Competition Overview: The Njord Challenge tests autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) under real-world maritime conditions.

Understanding ASVs: Autonomous Surface Vessels are crewless boats or ships that operate without human intervention onboard. They hold applications in maritime surveillance, oceanographic research, and environmental monitoring.
