AVM Shakti Sharma Becomes 1st Non-Medical Woman 2-Star Officer

Air Vice Marshal Shakti Sharma scripted history on September 1, 2026, by assuming the appointment of Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education) at Air Headquarters, becoming the first non-medical woman officer in the Indian Defence Forces to attain a two-star rank.
Key Features / Major Points:
Historic Milestone: Commissioned on June 18, 1994, into the Education Branch of the IAF, she is the first non-medical female officer across the Indian Armed Forces to reach the rank of Air Vice Marshal (or equivalent).
Key Achievements: She spearheaded the IAF Chairs of Excellence at IIT Kanpur and Pune University, and also became the first woman officer from the Tri-Services to serve as Principal of Sainik School, Kapurthala.
