35th Manipuri Language Day Celebrated; State Aims for Classical Language Status
Why in the News?
The 35th Manipuri Language Day was celebrated across Manipur to commemorate the inclusion of the Manipuri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India on August 20, 1992. The main state-level event was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) in Imphal.

Theme of the Event: The state-level function was organized under the theme “State Song ‘Sana Leibak Manipur’ for Peace, Unity and Integrity”.
Organizers: The event was organized by the Manipuri Language Day State Level Celebration Committee in collaboration with JNMDA (a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi).
Push for Classical Status: State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that the Manipur government will actively pursue obtaining 'Classical Language' status for Manipuri before the next Language Day.
