External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chaired the 19th India-Vietnam Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Le Hoai Trung, in New Delhi on September 14, 2026.

Review of Comprehensive Partnership: The two ministers conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations under the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, building upon the high-level leadership dialogues earlier in the year.

Defense and Security Co-production: Both sides identified pathways to deepen defense collaboration, including the co-production of Indian defense items and enhanced security coordination.

Economic and Connectivity Expansion: Discussions focused on expanding trade, investments, resilient supply chains, market access for pharmaceuticals and marine/agricultural products, as well as enhancing financial, port, and air connectivity.

Year of Friendship: Marking 55 years of robust diplomatic ties, both nations agreed to observe the upcoming year as the 'Year of India-Vietnam Friendship'.

Multilateral and Regional Engagement: The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to closer cooperation in regional and multilateral forums, welcoming Vietnam's active engagement under India's Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI).
